The Perfect Choice for Rotax 912-914 Engines Ever look at the Rotax Operator’s Manual for the factory specs on motor oil for Rotax 912-914 engines?? Here’s a few “Oil with gearing additives (4-stroke motor bike oil) is recommended.”* “Use only oils of registered brands of automotive-engines with API classification “SF” or “SG”*. Or my favorite, “Don’t use any aircraft engine oil whether with or without additives”* Confused yet !!?? Well instead of canvassing every motorcycle shop in town looking for these specs, next time you need engine oil for your Rotax four stroke just ask for “AV-9”. New from California Power Systems, Inc. is a custom formulated semi-synthetic motor oil specially designed for all Rotax 4 cylinder four stroke engines that carries the easy to remember designation of “AV-9”. Because the gearbox is an internal part of the engine it must be lubricated by the same engine oil. This requires special additives designed specifically for these engine/gearbox combos. Until now these specification were extremely difficult to find. AV-9 contains the perfect blend of additives to protect gears and clutches in all Rotax four stroke engines. The multiple viscosity SAE 15/40 gives AV-9 the ability to operate in temperatures from –10F to over +120F. AV-9 carries an API Classification of “SG” and a GL-5 rating, both a direct Rotax factory requirement. If you choose to use leaded aviation fuels, the semi-synthetic blend of AV-9 will also suspend lead from aviation fuels preventing premature deposits.
